Hot Ideas for businesses in 2010

We’re not only in a new year but we’re also in a new decade, and with this new decade, more people are looking for the hot businesses for 2010. They want to know that if they start a business that people are going to buy the products that they are selling, or they are going to use the services that they are offering. After all, starting a business takes money, and it’s not a good idea to invest money in something that doesn’t have a good chance to succeed.

When clients come to me to advise them on the kinds of businesses that they should consider this year, the ones which are below are the ones that I tell them to look into.

1) Everything Green

I am always looking for trends that have become hot, and this is a trend that I know is going to be around for a long time.    A lot of people are looking for organic items, everything from clothes to beauty products to their houses.  Whether my client decides to create something that is brand new and organic or they create an item that is currently inorganic but they make it organic, I know that they will discover that they will have a good client base. Whether the business sells green items or they do consulting on how a person can become green, having a business that helps the environment is one of the biggest businesses for 2010.

2) Discount stores

Something else that I tell my clients to consider when they are starting a business and one of the biggest businesses for 2010 are discount and dollar stores. Even though my clients say to me that that the economy seems to be getting better, I remind them that people are still going to be cautious and looking for a bargain. There has been a big trend in the discount and dollar store business for years,  and with the way that the economy has been recently, the trend continues to grow. It’s not hard to see why they are one of the biggest businesses of 2010.

3) Online services
When my clients come to me for business ideas, I tell them that the third of the biggest businesses of 2010 is everything to do with online services.  I remind them that there are many different options for online businesses, and one of the best things about this business is that very little capital is required to start a business like this. This is a business that I suggest for women with small children who want to work from home or who do not have a lot of money to put into their business up front. Whether my client decides to do website design, article marketing, or one of the other opportunities for online services, they will discover that there is a big market for it, and all of it can be done from the comfort of their own home.  The need for the services, the low capital needed, and the convenience of being able to do it from home all help to  make online services one of the biggest businesses of 2010.

These three business opportunities are just some of the ones that people are finding hot trends in, and they all cover a different need that the customers of the new decade need filled. Whether a new business owner decides to start an environmentally friendly business, a discount store, or a business that helps with providing online services, they will find that there are plenty of customers who need what they have to offer.

4) Direct Sales & MLM

With over a 100 years of history, proven success stories, low cost start-up and a growing need in the public place for personalised service, MLM, direct sales businesses are seeing a new surge. In the times of recession, these business models excel as ordinary people look for other opportunities. Don’t get me wrong, there are some really bad ones out there who give the industry a bad name. You need to be careful who you align with and make sure they have the service and support.

On a personal level, one of my businesses is an MLM business. I personally believe, that if you choose an MLM type business you must choose one that involves a product or service that you are passionate about. For me, it is health. Hence Monavie, the company I align with fits perfectly with my values about health and vitality. You need to do the same.

5) Property (Real Estate)

No matter what the economic climate, there are always opportunities in property. At the current time of writing this, there are some amazing opportunities to get undervalued properties, buy with a long term view and create a business cashflow. The objective here is to think business and to think long term. Focus on passive income with a view to seeing the capital value of your business grow over the next 5 years. This is also another passion of mine as many of you will know from the seminars I run.
