What are you passionate about
Let me ask you a question. What are you passionate about? What is it that really makes your blood boil? What is it that really gets you excited? One of the things that I advise my clients when I am mentoring them about starting a business, I ask them these questions. The reason for this is because people who are passionate about their business have a better chance of being successful. People who are passionate about something are more likely to fight for what they believe in and do all they can to make it work.
Many people ask me why having passion for a business is important Let’s look at the reasons why it’s necessary to start a business that you are passionate about.
1) Easier to Sell
The first reason that it’s important to have passion for a business is the fact that it’s going to be easier for you to sell the products that you are selling if you are a fan of it yourself. Everyone knows what it’s like to encounter a salesperson who is lackadaisical about their products. They have a monotone voice and you wonder if they really believe what they are saying or if they are simply parroting something that they were told to say. But when you have a business and a product that you believe in, it shows in your face and people can hear it in your voice, and they become excited and passionate about it as well.
2) Less Like Work
The second reason that it’s a good idea to have passion for a business is the fact that if you really enjoy what you are doing, it’s going to seem less like work because you are enjoying it so much. For example, take a place like Disney World. Have you ever seen the look on the employees’ faces when they are working? They obviously truly enjoy their work and they have fun doing it. If you have a passion for a business and you believe in what you are doing, then you are going to feel less like you are working and more like you are doing something that you enjoy and simply getting paid to do it.
3) More Effort
Finally, the third reason to have a passion for a business is that you are more likely to put extra effort into your products in your work. Think back to your days at school. Was there a subject or a teacher that you really loved in school? Chances are that if you really enjoyed that subject, you did everything you could do to do your best in that subject, because you enjoyed the subject so much. When you have a passion for a business, then you want to do everything that you can to make sure that it’s a success.
Having passion for a business puts everything in a new perspective and helps you keep going when times are tough. Passion is a powerful ingredient for a business and a necessary one.
One last word of caution – as an entrepreneur you will find that your passion can blind you. Meaning that you may forget to look at the detail in certain opportunities that come your way. Take if from me – I have been there. You have to also where the hat of an INVESTOR and a BUSINESS PERSON. Meaning, don’t approach things with blind passion. Have the ability to be passionately enthusiastic whilst remaining measured.
